Affiliate Marketing Programs - How To Make Them Pay
Affiliate marketing programs are often a win-win proposition for both the vendor and the affiliate, and can lead to a successful and prosperous partnership over the long run. The key to making this happen from the vendor's point of view is to offer the support and tools which are needed to turn a willing affiliate into a successful one, and from the point of view of the affiliate the key is to use these tools effectively. Affiliate programs can lead to a high income whether you are promoting information products or physical goods which are shipped through the mail.
If you are new to affiliate marketing, probably the first thing you should do is to join one of the well known affiliate networks which allow anyone to join and promote products. This will give you a nearly unlimited choice of products which you can start promoting with no outlay, and allow you to track your results as you go along. Networks which sell digital products can offer extremely high commissions, typically 50% or higher but even as high as 100% in some cases, while those which sell physical products pay far lower commissions but have high conversions and more sales volume.
If you research the subject more thoroughly, you'll find that a lot of companies run their own independent affiliate marketing program. This can be useful because there will be fewer people aware of it and less competition. It is best to promote products in niches in which you have an interest, because to be a successful affiliate you are going to need to write compelling pre-sales copy to persuade people to buy through your link or sign up to your list so that you can market to them again. The exception to this may be if you are promoting physical products which have many reviews, as you can use these as the basis for your content.
One thing's for sure -- the days when there was easy money to be made with affiliate marketing programs have long since passed and gone. There was a time when marketers could pay for advertising which would appear on the front pages of the search engine results, and direct the traffic straight to an affiliate offer. A good offer would convert well enough to cover the cost of the advertising and leave a profit left over. These campaigns are now far too expensive to run, and the search engine companies themselves have penalized this use of their advertising programs.
To profit from an affiliate marketing program these days takes a lot more work... this was inevitable with introduction of so much competition. You are going to need to set up a web presence of your own, either a website or a blog, and send traffic there instead of directly to affiliate offers. If you are really serious about building your business, you will need to be able to capture the names and email addresses of your visitors so that you can make them further offers.
The best affiliate marketing programs will make it easy for you to get started by producing affiliate tools you can use in your marketing. These can be pre-written emails to send to your list subscribers, advertising to place on other websites, or even articles which you can rewrite and submit to drive traffic. Just be careful to avoid anything which will drive traffic to the vendor's sales page while bypassing your capture form, as this will deny you the chance of another subscriber. Once you have someone on your list, you can try to sell the further offers and even offers from different affiliate marketing programs.
